Our Programs / Nuestros Programas

Every week we tutor children and help improve math skills, distribute groceries to those in need – we’ve provided more than 912,000 bags of food to the community since 1993! We also offer infant essentials every Saturday morning and coordinate community gatherings to educate and share informal resources. We organize field trips for children in our neighborhoods, and we bring together members of the community and civic leaders so that we continue to grow our connection to our neighbors and help them get the services they need.

Without Limits Tutoring / Tutoría Sin Límites

Without Limits is a community math tutoring program for underprivileged children. We provide free tutoring in math and reading to elementary schoolers. We are currently developing two initiatives: a children’s literacy program and Free Breakfast for Children to help alleviate hunger among our students. Help sustain our program.

Groceries for Our Neighbors / Alimentos Para Vecinos

Thanks to contributions from Hopenet and individual donors, we are able to distribute free groceries to 300-500 neighbors every Saturday morning at the First Unitarian Church. For over 32 years, Groceries for our Neighbors has offered a lifeline of support to supplement the diets of families in need. Help sustain our program.

Featured Campaign

COVID-19 Emergency Food Assistance

The Coronavirus pandemic threatens the livelihood of low-income seniors and working class people who already struggle with lack of access to food and adequate nutrition will be the hardest hit. We are preparing to safely distribute over 25,000 pounds of food weekly to those who cannot afford to stock up on supplies and the at-risk elderly population who will need groceries delivered to their homes.

Urban Partners LA is now in need emergency funding to distribute food with extra precautions and acquire safety equipment such as sanitizers, face masks, goggles, gloves to safely distribute food, and minimal staff to coordinate delivery and storage.

Your support is critical in this effort.

Please consider donating $20, $50, or $100 to UPLA now as we fight to provide food for thousands of families and low-income community members in need. It’s up to us and together we will create communities strong enough to combat hunger.

Become A Member-Owner

Member-Owners are the financial foundation of our program, joining our community enterprise by committing to recurring monthly contributions. These donations help to pay our tutors, fill our neighbors’ grocery bags, and spread the word to our community that they can get empowered here–with English, math skills, exercise, and nutrition.

Testimonials

We’re honored by what people say. Here are some of our favorite quotes from our donors, supporters, and community members.

“It’s important to volunteer and teach your kids while they are still young so when they become adults they can continue helping those in need.”

Killiy lives on the same street as the location for our program after her family overcame years of battling challenges with housing and low income occupations. Today, she is a star student but had to work as a child to help her parents. Now Killiy wants to help tutor because she never had access to those opportunities growing.
